Personalized Ironman & 70.3 Triathlon Coaching

Personalized coaching for athletes preparing for their first 70.3 or Ironman, chasing a personal best, or pursuing a championship qualification. Every plan is built around your goals, training history, schedule, and physiology—not a generic template.

Who This Coaching Is For

This coaching is designed for athletes who want individualized guidance rather than a generic training plan. Whether you are preparing for your first long-course triathlon, trying to improve your previous result, or pursuing a championship qualification, your training is built around your experience, available time, strengths, weaknesses, and race goals.

KP Coaching may be a good fit if you are:

  • Preparing for your first Ironman or 70.3

  • Chasing a personal best

  • Working toward a World Championship qualification

  • Balancing training with work and family

  • Struggling with pacing, fueling, consistency, or running off the bike

  • Looking for direct feedback and ongoing plan adjustments

Why Work With Kevin Portmann?

I spent eight years racing professionally in long-course triathlon and qualified for the Ironman World Championship. That experience now shapes how I coach, but professional-level training is never forced onto an athlete whose goals, schedule, or experience require a different approach.

  • Retired professional long-course triathlete

  • Ironman World Championship qualifier

  • Coach with experience coaching first-time finishers, personal-best performances, and championship qualifiers

What Long-Course Preparation Requires

Ironman and 70.3 preparation involves more than completing swim, bike, and run workouts. The training must develop endurance while also addressing pacing, fueling, recovery, equipment, transitions, and the ability to run effectively after the bike.

  • Building sustainable swim, bike, and run volume

  • Developing race-specific bike pacing

  • Practicing fueling and hydration during training

  • Improving durability and running off the bike

  • Preparing for open-water conditions and transitions

  • Managing fatigue across longer training blocks

  • Adapting training around work, family, travel, and recovery

  • Creating a clear race-day pacing and nutrition plan
