From the start line to the coaching call.
I'm Kevin Portmann — a recently retired professional triathlete and USA Triathlon certified coach based in Carlsbad, CA.
I raced Ironman and 70.3 professionally from 2017 until recently, including a sub-8:02 full distance finish at Challenge Gunsan, a top-4 at Ironman Lake Placid with a Kona qualification, and podium finishes at Ironman Wisconsin and Ironman Coeur d'Alene.
I've spent years learning how to train and race at the highest level. Now I put that experience to work for the athletes I coach.
I work with competitive age-groupers and Ironman athletes who want data-driven, tailored plans and a coach who will tell them the truth — about what's working, what isn't, and what it's actually going to take to hit their goals.
I grew up in Evian, France, playing every sport I could find — skiing, tennis, table tennis, soccer. I moved to Boston for university, then spent six years working in finance in New York City. That's where triathlon found me.
In 2012 I raced the New York City Triathlon and raised funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. That race changed everything. By 2016 I'd relocated to Southern California and made the decision to compete professionally.
I've been racing and learning ever since. In 2020 I started KP Coaching and began putting everything I'd learned as a pro to work for the athletes I train.
I now live in Carlsbad with my wife, my son Atlas, and our dog Bentley.
